Whether it was as a powerhouse babyface or an arrogant heel, Dave Bautista was one of the top superstars of the ‘Ruthless Aggression’ era of World Wrestling Entertainment, alongside his Evolution stablemate Randy Orton. Batista has recently moved into Hollywood, surprising critics and audiences with a great performance as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel epic Guardians of the Galaxy.
As such a prominent figure in WWE, death hoaxes are something of an inevitability for Batista. Several allegations of his passing broke online in 2009, suggesting that he had been found dead in a hotel room having acted oddly at a taping of SmackDown. The allegations in each case were swiftly rubbished, with forum users noting the incorrect spelling of Batista’s genuine surname as a giveaway of deception.
Batista is currently spending time away from WWE to work on films and he is sure to receive many more offers in the wake of his Marvel outing. But as he continues to ascend towards the A-list, there will certainly be more people ready to spread malicious online rumours about his death.
