6. Chris Jericho
Like Batista, Chris Jericho has obtained considerable fame outside of the professional wrestling business as the frontman of rock band Fozzy. This notoriety outside of the squared circle makes him more of a mainstream star and therefore an excellent draw for the people who perpetrate death hoaxes.
Y2J has been the victim of several hoaxes, including one rumour this summer that was perpetuated due to a Wikipedia page edit. Jericho was forced to respond to this particular prank on Twitter.
More amusingly, an April Fool’s gag spread in 2009 delved into the circumstances of Jericho’s death whilst making reference to some of the star’s famous catchphrases and moves.
“The door to Mr. Irvine’s [Jericho's] room could not be opened, after problems with the electronic access device meant that staff were unable to break the code. Eventually, the hotel manager allowed his staff to break down the walls, leading them to discover the body in the bathroom.”
Whether done to deliberately upset people or for an apparently innocent April Fool’s joke, rumours of Chris Jericho’s demise seem very persistent. As wrestlers are continually targeted by hoaxers, it’s Jericho’s name that just keeps appearing.
