WWE: 10 Most Paused Wrestling Moments 3

by Unknown  |  at  02:15

3. Fire

Fire in WWE is just one of those rarely done things that still holds some shock factor in the business. It was used on a couple of occasions after the ECW revival of the mid 2000′s, most notably at the ‘One Night Stand’ events and WrestleMania 22.
Seeing the likes of Mick Foley driven through flaming tables was one of those moments which had fans pausing their recording. It has the appeal of wanting to slow the spot down so you can try to figure out how Foley took the flames without suffering burns. The truth of it is, no matter how many times you pause it, there’s no hidden tricks. Foley really is taking that fire right on to his back. In most cases the impact extinguishes the fire so the burn is only temporary, but at One Night Stand 2006, Foley actually had small flames on his back for seconds after impact from Terry Funk’s burning barbed wire weapon.
The reality of these fire spots is that they aren’t only dangerous, they are also way too contrived. The preparation involved to set the spot up and the willingness of the performer to let their body be thrown onto the fire is way too obvious. The pause button in this instance further showed up just how contrived the flaming table spots are.
