WWE: 10 Most Paused Wrestling Moments 2

by Unknown  |  at  02:16

2. The Divas

Let’s be honest, the main reason fans have been hitting the pause button in WWE for the last decade is mostly because of the sexy female performers. The 2002 to 2006 generation of female entertainers in particular were very revealing in their ‘ring style’ and promo segments. Even just a normal weekly entrance to the ring (see Stacy Keibler’s unforgettable bending down rope entry) was cause for teenagers everywhere to hit ‘pause’ in hope of seeing what underwear Keibler had on that week. Low taste? Sure, this isn’t the classiest TV show of all time (far from it), but at the end of the day, WWE is an 18 to 35 year old male audience. You can’t knock them for producing content which is going to interest their customers. It’s how WWE make money (at least back then).
Trish Stratus was another performer who regularly courted spots designed to get fans to pay attention. There were so many subtle moments Trish knew how to work the audience with, a cheeky flash was never out of the question. Then there was the more overt pandering to the male viewers, regular bra and panties matches for example.
The amount of screencaps online from these moments tell you all you need to know about just how many times these spots must have been paused. It isn’t fitting with the PG era or political correctness, but sex appeal in wrestling was arguably the most empowering thing to ever happen to women in this industry.
