8. Austin’s Neck
One of those sickening moments you can’t help but to look at… when Owen Hart broke Steve Austin’s neck in 1997 we were all reaching for the VCR remote to see the exact moment of impact.The botch is probably the worst one in wrestling history, definitely when you consider how much money Austin would have been worth if he could have wrestled an extended career. By pausing the botched piledriver we can clearly see Owen was at fault for not protecting Austin. In the split second before impact with the mat, Austin’s head is still horribly over exposed – all the impact goes into his neck when it should have been going on Owen’s bum.
As a kid in the nineties this moment became stuff of legend. It was before the likes of youtube and before the popularity of insider websites, so getting hold of the VHS and reliving the botched spot was something to impress all the other school kids with. Its infamy has never really gone away.
